GMA's SONA 2008

Thank you, Speaker Nograles. Senate President Villar. Senators and Representatives. Vice President de Castro, President Ramos, Chief Justice Puno, members of the diplomatic corps, ladies and gentlemen:

I address you today at a crucial moment in world history.

Just a few months ago, we ended 2007 with the strongest economic growth in a generation. Inflation was low, the peso strong and a million new jobs were created. We were all looking to a better, brighter future.

Because tough choices were made, kumikilos na ang bayan sa wakas. We were retiring debts in great amounts, reducing the drag on our country’s development, habang
namumuhunan sa taong bayan.

Biglang-bigla, nabaligtad ang ekonomiya ng mundo. Ang pagtalon ng presyo ng langis at pagkain ay nagbunsod ng pandaigdigan krisis, the worst since the Great Depression and the end of World War II. Some blame speculators moving billions of dollars from subprime mortgages to commodities like fuel and food. Others point of the very real surge in demand as millions of Chinese and Indians move up to the middle class.

Whatever the reasons, we are on a roller coaster ride of oil price hikes, high food prices and looming economic recession in the US and other markets. Uncertainty has moved like a terrible tsunami around the globe, wiping away gains, erasing progress.

This is a complex time that defies simple and easy solutions. For starters, it is hard to identify villains, unlike in the 1997 financial crisis. Everyone seems to be a victim, rich countries and poor, though certainly some can take more punishment than others.

To address these global challenges, we must go on building and buttressing bridges to allies around the world: to bring in the rice to feed our people, investments to create jobs; and to keep the peace and maintain stability in our country and the rest of the world. Yet even as we reach out to those who need, and who may need us, we strive for greater self-reliance.

Because tough choices were made, the global crisis did not catch us helpless and unprepared. Through foresight, grit and political will, we built a shield around our country that has slowed down and somewhat
softened the worst effects of the global crisis. We have the money to care for our people and pay for food when there are shortages; for fuel despite price spikes.

Neither we nor anyone else in the world expected this day to come so soon but we prepared for it. For the guts not to flinch in the face of tough choices, I thank God. For the wisdom to recognize how needed you are, I thank, you Congress. For footing the bill, I thank the taxpayers.

The result has been, on the one hand, ito ang nakasalba sa bayan; and, on the other, more unpopularity for myself in the opinion polls. Yet, even unfriendly polls show self-rated poverty down to its 20-year low in 2007.

My responsibility as President is to take care to solve the problems we are facing now and to provide a vision and direction for how our nation should advance in the future.

Many in this great hall live privileged lives and exert great influence in public affairs. I am accessible to you, but I spend time every day with the underprivileged and under represented who cannot get a grip on their lives in the daily, all-consuming struggle to make ends meet.

I care for hardworking students soon to graduate and wanting to see hope of good job and a career prospect here at home.

Nag-aalala ako para sa 41-year old na padre de pamilya na di araw-araw ang trabaho, at nag-aabala sa asawa at tatlong anak, at dapat bigyan ng higit pang pagkakakitaan at dangal. I care for our teachers who gave the greatest gift we ever received – a good education – still trying to pass on the same gift to succeeding generations. I care for our OFWs, famed for their skill, integrity and untiring labor, who send home their pay as the only way to touch loved ones so far away.

My critics say this is fiction, along with other facts and figures I cite today. I call it heroism though they don’t need our praise. Each is already a hero to those who matter most, their families.

I said this is a global crisis where everyone is a victim. But only few can afford to avoid, or pay to delay, the worst effects.

Many more have nothing to protect them from the immediate blunt force trauma of the global crisis. Not only because of their sacrifices for our country but because they are our countrymen.

How do we solve these many complex challenges?

gusto mo mag-suicide?

suicidal, suicidal, when you say it's over....
- sean kingston

MASAKIT YUN! Kaya mong magbigti? Mahirap huminga, masarap pa rin sa presko! Nyahahaha...

a typical Pinoy's ref

Ang prigider (old school slang for ref) may kwento din. I happen to pass by Maxville (103.5 FM) and they tackled about this huge cold box. since it came I think after the WWII, nagbago na ang dating basyong nakasabit sa kisame para maiimbak ang pagkain at hindi maabot ng mga peste sa tahanan.

gulay - malunggay, kangkong, talong, kamatis
condiments in sachet - hot sauce, catsup
hiwang prutas - mangga, pinya, pakwan o papaya
Sunmade raisins
Brown Cow (kahit papano naging laman ng ref 'to)
di mawawala: dressed chicken, giniling, karne ng baboy

halos lahat yan meron kame. kayo kaya?

on the blog

i can't access my own multiply site, but my fingers are shaking to type in those thoughts coming into my mind. so may i plug this add-on to those who are blog addicts. i have been using this mozilla add-on for about months now and i find this efficient to my blogging passion.

may i introduce to you: ScribeFire.

i was just looking for some add-ons for my mozilla browser until i came across ScribeFire. now i can post on my Blogspot, which by the way cross-posts to my multiply. and i can browse the internet without leaving a draft. uploading pictures is very easy.

if you want to know how this works, please check the link below. i know most of you would take multiply better than adding anything on your PC. but you can still check it out.

too bad you can't post from ScribeFire directly to multiply. but it powers Wordpress, TypePad, LiveJournal, Windows Live Spaces, Performancing, Jeeran, MySpace, Tumblr, Splinder.com, InsaneJournal and Xanga for those of you who have a lot of blogging websites.

ScribeFire - How It Works

TAKAW ROFLMAO!

July 15 2008 - Araw ng Sweldo

it was customary for me to eat out with officemates during payday. eventhough my dad prepares my lunch everyday, i sneaked out of the house this morning without the food he prepared. in my efforts not to spend a lot for my meal, i bought a set meal from Manong Cecilio: our regular maglalako ng merienda and lunch. i selected the kare-kare with rice and banana for lunch. i even had the chance to buy mushroom soup at nearby KFC branch to warm my stomach kasi medyo malamig na rin yung inorder ko kay manong.

every boring day, actually this goes on for weeks already after we transfered at the new office. nakarinig pa nga kame ng barilan dito sa may shell maya. chismis na personal na away pero i don't get the point na bakit hindi na lang nya sugurin sa loob ng building yung kaaway nya at kelangan pang gumawa ng mayabang na eksena. hirap talaga sumikat ngayon.

since very boring nga ngayon sa office at nawalan pa ng internet at a very long time, idagdag mo pa ang pag-expire ng installed game ko from Yahoo©, na-beat ko din ang spider solitaire at nag-experiment sa photoshop na wala namang kinahinatnan. lumabas na din ako ng office kasama ang ilan sa officemates para magpahangin sa labas. bibili sila ng tinapay sa malapit. pero paglingon ko sa likod sa Gloria Jean's ay may nakita akong 2 familiar na tao: mich and sharnie. lazily wasting time doon at nagbabasa ng magazines while sipping warm drinks. so join na lang ako sa kanila. bumili ako ng white chocolate latté with whipped cream on top. nakitusok sa mga pastries na kinakain nila at nakibasa na rin ng magazine. first time kong magbasa ng Sugar Sugar at fashion mag pala sya.

bago kame lumabas e i was still craving for something. namiss ko na ang maanghang na wasabe. sharnie and i decided na pumunta ng Bento Box. e hindi pa kame nakakapagpaalam king ging at mich dahil magbabayad pa sila sa BDO na offline pa!

pagdating ng Bento Box e umorder na ako ng miso soup at 8 pcs maki. si sharnie naman e salad ang inorder. nauna ang miso soup, sumunod ang salad at last ang maki. partida, naki-chopsticks pako ng salad kay sharnie at naunahan ko pa syang ubusin yung order ko. ngayon para na akong butete. i wanna get back on Hiphop Abs! natigil e, months na. hehe...

Brand NEW Brangelina twins!

Oh oh, someone at In Touch is getting fired. The magazine reported that Angelina Jolie had given birth to twin girls yesterday, but it turns out she actually had a boy and a girl.

Dr. Michel Sussmann, the obstetrician who delivered the twins, confirmed that mother and babies "are doing marvelously well."

Sussmann said Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Caesarean section on Saturday night.

He told the AP on Sunday morning that the boy weighed just over 5 pounds and the girl 5 pounds.

We hear the first baby photos have already been sold to one of the weeklies for $11 million dollars. And all the proceeds will go to charity. Can't wait to see the newest addition to the Brangelina bunch! Congrats to the happy couple.

Venezuela crowned... again!

NHA TRANG, Vietnam - Miss Venezuela was crowned Miss Universe 2008 on Monday in a contest marked by the spectacle of Miss USA falling down during the evening gown competition for the second year in a row.

An elated Dayana Mendoza received the crown from her predecessor, Riyo Mori of Japan, and then prepared to meet a gaggle of reporters. Miss Venezuela, 22, was once kidnapped in her homeland and says the experience taught her to remain poised under pressure.

Tension got under the skin of Crystle Stewart of Texas, the second Miss USA in a row to fall down during the Miss Universe pageant. She tripped on the train of her bejeweled evening gown as she made her entrance.

Hay!

from SWOOSSHHH! to SLASH!

i'm finally taking my first steps to a debt-free life.

in the past two years, i have filed for credit card applications and in a way i'm "thankful" about it after i received them. "THEM" meaning i've got 3 credit cards and first of which is the "ever-reliable" Citibank. others include AIG and Standard Chartered. being able to catch trendy stuff, eating what i want, getting to places i wanted and feeling "rich" with it. but feeling rich i thought was not a good idea. to cut the long story short, i woke up with a lot of debt.

i realized that i should be getting WHAT I NEED, not WHAT I WANT. i'll just have to save up for what i want.

i should have saved the extra money that i leave on the ATM but instead, it came landing on credit card bills, bills and bills. even the bonuses are getting into the payments too. sure thing that i get the perks from these cards and living a cash-less life, but you resort to, again, getting loans to pay the bills which simply spell D-E-B-T.

you'll think that i am living the "life," but i tell you, you don't want to stay up late thinking about debt. you'll stress yourself out and you hide your worries from others ending up debting again. i'm done with the thinking of "kaya yan ni kumpareng VISA at MASTERCARD" when it comes to expenses. they will pass the burdens to you.

last saturday, i received a mail from this credit card company which they say "upgrades" my account. i realized i don't want another burden in my life. i called them up and i wish them to cancel it. that call allowed me to breathe a little air. my reason is, i'm already clearing my name from them and eventually getting debt-free. and the other card which has been tempting me since day 1, i also cancelled it. i even left the other active cards at home so i'll be living within my means. if ever i'll be receiving a call for any of their offers, may i have the guts to say "i am not interested." i'm taking into advice from financial experts and i am reading their books and blogs. having the belief that i will soon be out of debt. may God bless me.

lumindol na naman a

ngaun ngaun lang. na-feel nyo?
