Relaxation is not that too distant

we are all under pressure in our everyday lives and it's not just caused by the summer heat. the stress caused by the demanding work load in the office makes my tiny body sore and might almost drop if i don't get the time to rest. getting in and out of the office they also say is very dangerous so i take vitamins to stop getting flu caused by the changing temperature.

as i've talked about BlueWater Day Spa before, i am lucky enough to experience their spa theater with other fellow bloggers. now, they want us to experience again their services at the Capitol Hills branch. and from the green and relaxing view of Capitol Hills, a good massage will be a great addition.

a nice whole body massage would be able to take off those back stresses and improve my blood circulation and definitely would take me to a good sleep. i already can manage my tickles and enjoy a good massage. BlueWater Day Spa has made me experience the service and i want to go back.

the Capitol Hills branch is not that distant from where i live. just a ride from Katipunan avenue can drop me at the nearest BlueWater Day Spa. it wouldn't be so hard for me to get the massage i want.

SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD MUSICAL Set on May 1-2, 8-10

by: Mr. Toots O. Tolentino

9 Works Theatrical, Manila’s newest theatre company proudly presents “Songs for a New World ”, the smash hit Off-Broadway musical at the Carlos P. Romulo Theatre, RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue cor. Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.

The schedule of shows are on May 1, 2, 8, and 9 ( 8:00 p.m. ) and May 10 ( 3:30 p.m. ).

“Songs For A New World” presents life as the way we regroup and figure out how to survive in a new set of circumstances – a new world – even against seemingly overwhelming odds. These are songs about that new world, a world in which the definitions of family, distance, money, technology, the very nature of human contact is changing everyday, a world in which the rules don’t apply as often as they do, a world in which the solutions our parents found don’t work for us, and a world in which today’s answers probably won’t apply tomorrow.

“Songs For A New World” is a brainchild of Tony-Award winning American Musical Theater lyricist and composer Jason Robert Brown. He has been hailed as “one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen Sondheim” (Philadelphia Inquirer); and The New York Times actually refers to Jason as "a leading member of a new generation of composers who embody high hopes for the American musical”.

Jason Robert Brown’s musical theater hits include “Parade” (1998 Tony Awards - Best Score; Drama Desk Award - Best Music); “The Last Five Years” (2002 Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics, and nominated for Outstanding Orchestrations); “Urban Cowboy” (2003 Tony-Award Nominee for Best Original Score); “Wearing Someone Else’s Clothes” (2005), Brown’s solo debut album; and the latest, “13”, which opened in Broadway in 2008.

Robbie Guevara, a noted theatre actor and director; co-founder, and Artistic Director of 9 Works Theatrical will direct anew this musical after a successful one-night run last August 24, 2008. While originally written as a musical with a montage of songs or a ‘musical revue’, Robbie will have a different take on this material by weaving the songs together in order to come up with a story.

“Songs For A New World” features a handful of the country’s most talented theater actors, who have been practicing and sharing their talents with primary Philippine theater companies such as Repertory Philippines, Trumpets, Stages, Philippine Opera Company, and Atlantis Productions. The cast consists of Felix Rivera, Caisa Borromeo, Anna Santamaria, Harold Cruz, Carla Guevara – Laforteza and Ms. Pinky Marquez.

Felix Rivera (as “Murray” / Sam “Steam Train” Torres) is known to be the “Golden Boy” of the current Philippine Theater industry. From Tanghalang Ateneo’s “Lam-Ang The Musical”, Felix has appeared in “Footloose The Musical”, “Joseph The Dreamer”, “Basilia ng Malolos”, “Orosman at Zafira”, “High School Musical” and “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” (as Musical Director), “Avenue Q”, “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Hamlet”, “Altar Boyz” (as vocal coach), “Mulan”, and “A Christmas Carol”. As lyricist, he co-wrote the theme songs for MMFF entries “Aishite Imasu 1942” (Hanggang Wakas, Aishite Imasu) and “Exodus” (Love that Never Fades sung by Sarah Geronimo and Erik Santos).

Carla Guevara-Laforteza (as “Veronica”) has done countless productions under Repertory Philippines such as “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Cinderella”, “Song and Dance”, “Alice In Wonderland”, “Once On This Island”, “Aladdin”, “Company”, and many more. Carla’s other theatre credits include “The Little Mermaid”, “The King and I”, “Avenue Q”, “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and “Miss Saigon” (London Production) as Kim. On TV, she has been a host and performer in “ASAP”, “Millenium Countdown”, “Munting Paraiso”, “Maalala Mo Kaya”, “Star Drama Presents”, “Star Studio Presents”, “Flames”, “ABS-CBN Christmas Specials”, “S.O.P.”, “Walang Tulugan”, “Dina”, “Keep On Dancing” and “Hiwaga Sa Bundok”. Carla won an award for “Best New Artist For Television” from the Philippine Movie Press Club’s Star Awards 2000.

Caisa Borromeo (as “Lisa”) is a Voice Performance Major at the St. Scholastica’s College of Music. Her theatre credits include “I Love You Because”, “Hairspray”, “West Side Story”, “Footloose”, “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Love’s Labor’s Lost”, “Cinderella”, “Mulan”, “Aladdin”, “Snow White And The Seven Dwarves”, “Merrily We Roll Along” and “Company Call”.

Anna Santamaria (as “Amy”) has appeared in theater productions which include “I Love You Because”, “Mulan”, “Cinderella”, “Fiddler On The Roof” and “A Christmas Carol”. She also starred in Philippine Opera Company’s “Heart and Music”, “The Rhythm of Life”, “Opera Lite: Bar Tour” and “La Boheme”.

Harold Cruz (as “David”) has appeared in various theatre productions like “I Love You Because”, “A Christmas Carol”, “Mulan”, “Cinderella”, “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Aladdin”, “Man of La Mancha”, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, “Disney’s High School Musical”, “Bat Boy the Musical” and with Philippine Opera Company’s “La Boheme”, “Rhythm of Life”, and “Heart and Music”.

Pinky Marquez (as “Mrs. Claus”) has a successful career in entertainment and the performing arts that is so impressive for its remarkable variety. As a singer, she has one of the best voices around - a strong, clear soprano that is most aurally thrilling when she's hitting the highest notes. This has enabled her to join show bands, perform as one of the most popular "Angfourgettables", do many lounge acts and corporate shows, concerts and star in numerous unforgettable musicals. To name a few, they are “Katy”, “The Sound Of Music”, “Flower Drum Song”, “By George!”, “Beauty And The Beast”, “Little Mermaid”, “Mulan”, “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Cinderella”, “Glorious”, “Romance In D”, and original Filipino musicals like “Noli Me Tangere”, “Balkhita”, “El Filibusterismo”, and “Magnificat”. As a comedienne, she has done a lot of sitcoms, plus a number of movies. Refusing to be limited to making people laugh, Pinky has also acted with distinction in stage dramas like “The Diary Of Anne Frank”, and “Oedipus Rex”. On TV, she had her own cooking show for quite a number of years, aside from many guest stints on musical-variety and drama programs.

The production team of “Songs For A New World” is as follows:
Robbie Guevara (director, set design, projections design), Peachy Atilano (production manager), Dax Carnay (stage manager), Mio Infante (design consultant), Martin Esteva (lighting design), Ceejay Javier (musical director), Felix Rivera (vocal coach), Francis Matheu (choreography), Shelyn Tayanes (marketing), Santi Santamaria (sales), Anna Santamaria (finance), Joselito Tolentino (PR consultant), Jonjon Martin and Carlos Canlas (publicity).

“Songs For A New World” is presented by 9 Works Theatrical and its media partners: Manila Bulletin, Focus Media, Lifestyle Network, SIP Magazine, Circuit Magazine, 24/7 Magazine, ClickTheCity and www.psep-online.com.

a special press conference was held at the Via Veneto, A.Venue Hotel Suites. i came up so early as i thought that the call time was 11AM. i caught the staff still doing their dry run on the conference and able to meet ms. peachy. but being an early bird isn't so bad. i was able to talk with mr. santi santamaria and robbie guevara, the managing director and artistic director of 9Works Theatrical respectively. mr. santi gave an overview about 9Works in a more intimate and detailed info about his new business venture and we were able to convene more personally.

later on, mr. robbie guevara handed me this brown bag filled with Hershey bags (yipee), chocolates and more chocolates! the treat is so good! thanks too to Hersheys for bringing Songs for a New World. as lunch is served, other guests start to arrive. i saw lhar santiago, as one whom i really familiar with. and i'm able to meet writers and reporters from Woman Today and UNTV. too bad i didn't bring my cards for this. :(

the whole cast was introduced and they sang excerpts from the play. their voices are so good so expect to be really drawn into the performances. and when i had the chance to ask them what song will they offer to the new world, they simply answered the final song. and that's what you're about to know and hear.

Survivor Philippines Season 2: Ohmski Invasion

i, again, had the nerve to try out for the second season of Survivor Philippines. i attended the 2nd day of the Manila Leg last March 28 2009 at SM North EDSA. this time, the line was more organized and less populated as it was reported before. i went with nherz who is also a Survivor fanatic herself and curious of trying out for the slot of being a castaway.

when i arrived at SM North around 8AM, i immediately headed to the multi-level parking lot at the back of the mall and was given slot number 0827. this time it was more organized and they had prevented those who want to cut the line and overtake people behind. i congratulate the people behind this. at first we had a hard time to look for the end of the queue because it was a long zigzag from the 1st level interview tables. nherz and i got bored so we managed to take a break and stroll around the mall to have out lunch and escape the heat at the parking lot.

when we returned, the line has moved but we managed to remember the people who goes before and after our post. and to keep my mind at peace, i bought food at the kiosks near the line. a special halo-halo from chicken company did help.

i also got the chance to find my friends, zalds and gabz who are also trying their luck to be included at the reality show. i also talked to the people around and share my experience last season as i was also trying out.

i managed to post online plurks about what was happening every moment. posts are found at my plurk account of course.

our batch entered level 1. there were 10 of us interviewed by one. she immediately uttered that Survivor needs a unique character. she cuts those who simply say, "I am determined, blah blah" and when it's my turn to answer, i said that im a blogger and i want to influence minds and that will be my strategy. i was also recognized being a dotcomer and at first i thought if it was bad. but good thing i passed the first level with one from our batch.

slot 8022 was handed to me. nherz also passed for the second level and another person i know. then we went at the SM food court for the second level. Jace, Charisse, Vern, and first sole survivor JC were there to screen aspirants. basically they were asking about the info you said on the first level.

but then Kiko Rustia arrived. the new host of Born to Be Wild, wednesday nights after Saksi. then asked me about Earth Hour. i did all the best i can and answered to the most intellectual manner i could. i think i gave the best answer and they all agreed with me. when we headed backstage, it's sad to say that no one from our batch passed level 2. i don't know what they're talking about and what they are looking for. then i realized that it's a show as mariczar told me. didn't they know that i was on TV several times? lol, first featured in KMJS for the "Pila Republic" case study and a little extra appearances in some shows. lol

i may not have passed this time. i promise next year, a newly-transformed ohmski will get into the 18 castaways! but every audition experience is great.

i will be about to shout SURVIVOR AKO!

nag-audition na naman ako!

I'm now here at the auditions of survivor philippines at SM north edsa. Queued at 827th position, getting hungry, bored and sleepy. I hope the interview has already started. A lot of people are trying their luck to be castaways for season two. Updates will be posted at http://www.plurk.com/ohmski

ganun pala sa IMAX

yesterday i had the chance to watch the premiere of Monsters vs. Aliens at the IMAX theater. thanks to Yehey who gave us tickets for this event for free.

i went off early from the office to catch the cocktails before the movie screening. i was with sire, leira, montsch and aeirin acosta, earth, jenn and jeff aspacio, az, sarah, joriben, chris and trix. those who haven't got into my list, dko pa kasi kayo kilala masyado. hehe... basta event kayang isacrifice ang trabaho. lol

so back to the IMAX experience, upon entrance, kelangan talagang isurrender ang mga camera phones at iba pang devices na pwedeng mag-capture ng images inside the cinema. para iwas pirata na rin. and you will also be given a pair of 3D glasses para lalo mong ma-appreciate ang movie in 3D.

maganda ang loob pero 2 lang ang aisles, yung nasa gilid lang. so kapag pupunta ka sa upuan mo e marami kang madadaanan bago ka makarating. be sure to pee before the show to avoid hassle.

the chairs are soft and cozy. kahit gustuhin mong maglean pa e komportable ka pa rin dahil may space pa para sa tao sa likod mo na mag-unat-unat.

when the movie started, ibang dimension talaga! pero kung medyo malapit ka sa screen, sasakit mata mo. halos maluha talaga ako hindi dahil sa kakatawa sa movie pero sa sobrang lapit ko sa screen. but everything is fine and i enjoyed the movie.

Fish & Bloggers World Tour

NO MEAT should be served on the table during the Lenten Season. it only applies for us Catholics. and fish is a good meat substitute. the Philippines already has more than 101 ways of cooking fish due to it's archipelago structure. but how would you like to taste a new type of serving of a common recipe? try something from overseas, let's say. a simple fish-fillet dish from Malaysia, India, Philadelphia, and Japan. a simple dish is different from other countries. and Fish & Co with Yehey had let us to deliver their Fish and Chips in a variety from the four countries i've mentioned

Fish & Co. is the home of the world-famous Fish and Chips. and as global as the brand name is, their Fish and Chips menu also went around the world! you can differentiate the average Fish and Chips from the Fish and Chips Around the World Platter because it contains the taste that will take the four countries to your mouth.

and as to give that experience, bloggers have been invited to "Prep Up" the platter according to the countries they have been assigned to. and as Yehey have been fond of challenges, once again, a race challenge to shop, chop and decorate the platter of
their assigned country. from the start, bloggers wore sash representing the country they belong and running towards the grocery like pageant contestants in a challenge.

for India, the inspiration came from the Hindu god, Vishnu, which is the god of sustenance, life existence and balance. a yellow flower made from lemon rind is placed on top of the fish fillets as an offering to Vishnu and to maintain balance for everything. Indian dishes are known for having a lot of dips and sidings.

Vishnu Fish Delight

when the contest is over, great presentations are made by bloggers and Philadelphia team won. the plating is filled with cheese and as mouth-watering as it looks.

Philadelphia Fish and Chips

Malaysian and Japanese Fish and Chips

afterwards, a feast of Fish & Co. dishes filled blogger stomachs again with a variety from course meal to desserts.

if you want to try out Fish & Co. dishes, you can visit them at Trinoma, SM Mall of Asia, Shangri-La Mall and Greenbelt 3.

lucky are we who are born in your generation,
lucky are we who enjoyed your presence.
lucky are they who had a father like you,
lucky is she to have you as her spouse.
you are a treasure, a talent, a piece of gold,
but your glitter shines endless like a diamond.
we mourn for your loss, and more hope has just began.
after the darkness, morning comes brightly like three stars and a sun.

Manila is all in one book

the city of Manila itself is a very huge piece of land. even i still haven't got around to the busiest streets of it without asking for directions or following road signs. but Periplus Publishing and Fully Booked brought us the new Manila Street Atlas where all, i mean "all" roads you can tell is listed and drawn into detail. now getting lost is not an excuse for anyone who are able to purchase one.

the Manila Street Atlas of course features maps and directions. it includes a Street Index where if you're only familiar of a given street, let's say, JP Rizal; there's a lot of JP Rizal on the metro but getting it more particular to the Makati, JP Rizal street, the Street Index entry will take you to the map page where it can easily be found.

there's also a Building Index listing all building names and skyscrapers around the region. it's so updated that even buildings, roads and other establishments and structures that are on development, they are already entered in the Manila Street Atlas.

leirs, sire and me (official photog namin si aeirin e)

last Tuesday, i have been invited as part of the Fully Booked Bloggers Club to take a first look on the Manila Street Atlas. hosted by Gelli of RX 93.1, we have been introduced to the Manila Street Atlas and mentioning all benefits i said above. there are 2 contests held on the event and bloggers take the prizes! first, we are to find 5 GET LOST tickets with Fully Booked stickers on them to win Moleskine notebooks. thank God, Sire, Aeirin and Leira also came to the event. Aeirin and Leira also got same tickets but due thanks to Leira for finding one for each of us.

next is using the Manila Street Atlas and locating bars and establishments that sell SMB products to the specific map location. fortunately, i was already looking at the Indexes and put my finger on the map with the same entry. am i lucky or what? for that, i won my new favorite green jacket from San Miguel. that Manila Street Atlas has been very useful to me!

speaking of San Miguel, a tasting of 4 ice-cold SMB products was conducted by their SMB girls. thanks SMB!

another freebie is a pink bag from Tuttle with Periplus Publishing Catalog and info about the new Manila Street Atlas. DOWNLOADABLE CATALOG here.

Fun in my vocabulary

well, that's what i believed before this:

Yehey has done it again. now it's a team-up with Island Cove Resort and Leisure Park in Cavite for it's first DETOUR: The Bloggers Island Cove Adventure last March 5. 30 bloggers are assembled to outwit, outplay and outlast other teams with challenges lined up within the 12-hectare facility of Island Cove. Blogventurer profiles are seen at the microsite and their winning factors.

meet the blogventurers

before any fun started, the bloggers were seen lurking very early in the morning at Gonuts Donuts, The Fort Global City having Krispy Kreme donuts and coffee. a little chitchat ignoring which ones to beat at the games. Island Cove is just a 30-minute ride from Makati so as you pass by the toll gate and driving from SM Bacoor to Kawit, the resort is easy locate.

upon arrival at the game arena, a little breakfast was served to liven up sleeping nerves and prepare the participants for the tour of the whole facility. Island Cove management gave their welcoming remarks and the bloggers were divided to 6 teams with their assigned team leaders.

White Team led by Marcelle Fabie

a tour around Island Cove was accompanied by Ms. Weng. first, we went to the Sangley Point with 3 function rooms Aguinaldo, Magdiwang and Magdalo. then to the floating pavilions of Kawit, Alapan and Binakayan with is air-conditioned; a big gymnasium of Cavite, where nearby you can see a giant chess board not so much like what you saw from Harry Potter but the same way it can challenge your mind. behind the Cavite Hall is the Oceania Water Park with a big pool upto 6-feet deep with 4 slides dropping you to 4 different points of the pool.

night life is no question at Island Cove because you can take a night party at Fisherman's Deck while enjoying the view of the Manila skyline. if you got hungry and you want fish for a meal, just floating beside the Fisherman's Deck is the Fishing Village where you can lure your own fish for food. there are 10 species of fish propagated at Island Cove that you can enjoy fresh and hot on the plate.

if you enjoy the wild and extremes an eco-friendly, electricity-powered tram will take you to the other island of Island Cove which displays wild life such as crocodiles, monkeys and different kinds of birds. an adventure zone where you can play paint ball is also a good option for extreme gamers.

another ride at the tram and you can be dropped at the Island Songs KTV for videoke peeps. and nearby are the hotels and cottages for overnighters and those who want to sleep soundly. the Island Cove is graded AAA similar to that 5-star rating so luxury with comfort is really taken seriously here.

The Games
games started at 1PM after the big lunch. everyone is adrenalin-charged as laszlo gave the go signal and the clue cards. the search operation happened at the hotel and i was so lucky to find our adventure kit to claim our next card for the next task. the next clue took us to the Kawit Hall for a sack race, a little violation was made for we had put the flag first before doing the task which is a no-no. then az played the giant chess. we headed to the floating pavilions to search for the other half of the mask they gave us. after i found the mask just lying on the floor, we went to Sangley Point to test our Survivor instincts. i ate frog legs and drank ampalaya juice. here's the video:

My Survivor Edge

i will update this later. this is like the Amazing Race/Survivor, you always expect one team to win. we finished 5th but we all had fun. Mr. Gilbert Remulla, owner of the facility had a talk before closing the event.
