Pixar's Coco is a tear-jerker

When you enjoy good graphics mixed with some adventure and good laughs, you always forget that Disney Pixar movies will hit you hard and unexpectedly shed a tear. That's what Coco delivered and I am happy that Pixar is back with its trademark in story telling.
Coco's family-oriented theme is no different from the Filipino culture even it is set in Mexico. Strong family ties, love for one another and sometimes holding grudges that would go as far as death is very much familiar to two countries that patronize telenovelas as past time. But most importantly, the Day of the Dead connects all of us in remembering our ancestors and all the good things they've spent while they were alive.

The story really hit me as I remember my grandmother with Mama Coco. I was really close to her and really felt sad about what happened to her by the end of the movie. But I am also happy that she was able to reunite with her parents in the afterlife. For now, I'm worried where to get my ancestors' photos for the ofrenda so we can remember them every year. But they are in my prayers every day.
Coco is a colorful musical filled with heart and you will definitely remember.

Heroes and villains in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Warner Bros took a tease on the first look of JK Rowling's Wizarding World with the cast photo of the wizards in FANTASTIC BEASTS: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The movie is set to be in theaters November 2018.

In the previous film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald features a great ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp.

Ground Zero exhibit for the rehabilitation of Marawi

The District Gallery opens its doors to the public for an exhibition featuring Celine Lee, Jose Tong, Kevin Nieves, Marc Gaba, Nasser Lubay, Racquel De Loyola, and Wipo. A part of the proceeds will be donated to the rehabilitation of Marawi. The exhibit runs from November 11 to December 9 at Arts Above.

Ground Zero presents works across various media that explore escape as a viable aesthetic and political—that is to say, artistic—response. Here, escape is not about a naïve denial of the real, but an acknowledgment of the absurdity that dominates the political sphere and increasingly, the hype-culture of contemporary art, and thereafter taking a moment to step aside.

In this idea of escape, one remains in the midst of everything, in a paradox of stopping in motion. “Umuwi na tayo,” goes the song by the Eraserheads, “dahil wala ng sense ang ating mundo" — which in translation goes “Let’s get back home since the world doesn’t make sense.” Where—or perhaps more precisely, what—home is, sustains itself here as a lingering question whose openness is not only the rationalizing premise of the group exploration, but is also the very aesthetic held forth: these are works that could still the mind, that a new perspective might be born, one without prescription, out of the rare freedom that stillness yields.

The District Gallery is in Arts Above, 112 West Avenue, Quezon City. For more information, you may email districtgallery@outlook.com or call 09989911982. You can also follow their social media accounts at @districtgalleryph.

Meet the voice cast of The Lion King

25 years since it's movie release in 1994, Jon Favreau revives the Disney classic, "The Lion King" in 2019. And they are proud to announce the roster of voice talents that will be giving life to the characters we all love. The Lion King had its theatrical and musical success all over the world with hits from Elton John "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life."
Lions rule the African savanna in “The Lion King,” which welcomes Donald Glover (“Atlanta,” “Solo: A Star Wars Story”) as future king Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (“Dreamgirls,” “Lemonade” visual album) as Simba’s friend-turned-love interest Nala, and James Earl Jones (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Field of Dreams”) as Simba’s wise and loving father, Mufasa, reprising his iconic performance from Disney’s 1994 animated classic. Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Twelve Years a Slave,” Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange”) was called on to portray Simba’s villainous uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard (“Juanita,” Marvel’s “Luke Cage”) portrays Simba’s no-nonsense mother, Sarabi. JD McCrary (OWN’s “Tyler Perry’s The Paynes,” Apple’s “Vital Signs”) fills the shoes of Young Simba, a confident cub who can’t wait to be king, and Shahadi Wright Joseph (NBC’s “Hairspray Live,” Broadway’s “The Lion King”) brings tough cub Young Nala to life.

Every kingdom comes with a trustworthy advisor or two. John Kani (“Coriolanus,” Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Civil War”) was cast as the wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver (HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”) was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa’s loyal confidant. When Simba goes into exile, he relies on two newfound friends—Seth Rogen (“Sausage Party,” “Neighbors”) lends his comedic chops to naïve warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner (“Billy on the Street,” FX’s “American Horror Story”) joins the cast as know-it-all meerkat Timon.

While most of the animals in the kingdom respect the king, the hyenas have other plans. Florence Kasumba (NBC’s “Emerald City,” Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther”) portrays Shenzi, Eric André (Adult Swim’s “The Eric André Show,” FXX’s “Man Seeking Woman”) is Azizi, and Keegan-Michael Key (“Predator,” Netflix’s “Friends from College”) plays Kamari.
From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. Utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way, “The Lion King” roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.
