pa-text!

MANILA, Philippines - A proposal to make text messaging free may force companies to eliminate the service since it will no longer be profitable to maintain it, an industry source told GMANews.TV.

Since free text messaging will be subject to abuse, the source said that it will affect networks of telecommunications companies, reducing their efficiency and resulting in service degradation.

“If you make it free of charge, companies will not be encouraged to invest in the business because it will not be profitable. Eventually, the service may no longer be available," said the source.

The source was reacting to a spate of new reports which exhorted mobile phone companies to cut their text messaging fees to P0.15 from P1, as indicated by a proposal recently raised by a female legislator.

Telecommunications companies “can agree to either reduction or the scrapping of the charges. Either way, the main beneficiaries here will be our people who deserve all the relief they can get," Bulacan Representative Ma. Victoria Sy-Alvarado said.

We're moving!

It's final. Effective this June, the new Beginnings @ 20Plus Inc. will be located at 6F Don Chua Lamko Bldg, LP Leviste cor. HV dela Costa Sts., Salcedo Village, Makati City. Haist, now this will be a longer walk from where I will be dropping off to office. If I'll be from Makati Medical Center, lakad to Ayala underpass by Convergys tapos akyat sa may GT Tower then walk to the building just right after McDonald's. And now we're in a higher level kaya magtyaga sa kakahintay ng elevator paakyat. Good luck din sakin pag umuulan! And we can't just get out of the office ata if we want to buy something or for some break.

And for my friends who goes to work nearby that place, kita-kits sa McDo!

blogspot new look

in Photoshop mode to change my header on Blogspot. love to play on text and backgrounds. now I really love my new header! before it was "Ohmski is the Law" and now I confess that I'm an Austin Powers fan (lol) and a little bit of being eco-friendly too. ;)

btw, i have the same blogs in multiply.

the survivor experience

got up early for this. it is the 2nd day of the manila leg of auditions for Survivor Philippines. also the day of my birthday, i managed to take this day on leave para lang makapag-audition. some people didn't take it seriously when i said i was going. this was also the day for the AI finale so i missed the live airing.

so i packed an extra shirt, my passport and 2 pens but i forgot to pack food and water for my stomach. though i have eaten heavy breakfast, i should have brought some food with me.

got into SM North The Block by around 930AM and the place is already congested. some come in groups, others like me were alone in the site. it would be very hard for you if you just go on alone and be a snob. you don't want to get overtaken in line right so you have to be acquainted with the people in front or at your back to save your post.

so i spent the whole 7 hours calling or texting, observing the line; with every move of the queue is a smile on everyone's faces who are in excitement to get on to the first level of the screening. at last, i and 4 people were in front of the interviewer and gave us this situation:

if you were the last 5 in the island and you store the food for everyone but you discovered that the others are scheming to vote you off on next tribal council, what are you going to do?

i won't disclose my answer here but i passed this test. lol

so i've been very excited telling everybody that i passed the first screening and that i needed more prayers to get to the next level. i was given my number 10382 hoping that this will be my lucky number. now i got more confident in interacting with others. got to know some of them and then we transferred to the food court by 10's. then i thought the organizers were gathering all passers before proceeding with the next part. yun pala umiikot din yung line dun tapos pupunta sa likod ng stage now to convince the judges why you should be considered to be a contestant for Survivor. some say it's the test of "kakapalan ng mukha" kaya naman kinapalan ko na talaga mukha ko, aside na makapal na nga sya talaga. pero sayang hindi ako nakapasa. but it was a worthwhile experience. next time i know what to do. i got to see them next year!

winners and losers from AI 2008

review lang ito na natanggap ko sa email. since hindi naman ako masyado nakanood this season, i can't relate to some. pero im very happy na si DC ang nanalo!

here is the review:

There may be two Davids in the "American Idol" finale, but there's no Goliath. Either would be OK as a winner. Both are good singers. One doesn't overpower the other. The hip choice is David Cook, 25, because he's older, has a rock edge and is less likely to flash a nervous, squirmy smile than sweet boy wonder David Archuleta, 17.

No matter who wins, there's a glitch in the "Idol" star-maker machinery. Ratings are down. Charisma and energy are missing.

"Idol" is having an identity crisis, and not just because two guys with the same first name are left.

David C. and David A. have their final sing-off tonight. Wednesday, we'll find out the winner, after the usual two hours of celebrity-studded padding.

But this year, there are plenty of winners and losers to go around.

Losers:The judges, who've spent an entire season phoning in their critiques. It wasn't just Paula Abdul who embarrassed herself by reviewing a song that hadn't been sung yet. Randy Jackson stuck to a tired script of phrases like "It was just all right for me." Simon Cowell seemed completely disengaged. If they don't care enough to be excited, why should we?

Winner: The person who decided to let contestants play instruments. The innovation proved "Idol" is capable of making the changes necessary to get back on track. Brooke White's piano, David Cook's guitar, even Chikezie's just-learned-it harmonica were all welcome additions.

Winners: Clean-speech advocates, who appreciated the various exclamations of "gosh" uttered eight times by David Archuleta (in a slight Napoleon Dynamite voice) during his visit to his hometown last week. David A. has made wholesomeness safe again for America's youth. Don't you just want to squeeze his head off?

Loser: Jeff Archuleta, who was banned from his son's rehearsal sessions, an indication the rumors of his stage-dad ways are true. Maybe this is why poor David A. looks like a deer frozen in the headlights as he awaits the judges' comments.

Loser: The questions-from-viewers-at-home segment that helped fill the empty minutes of those hour-long "Idol" results episodes. Why did the producers persist in running the questions on the giant screen before the fans had a chance to ask them via phone? To make it extra boring?

Losers: The girls instructed to stand in front of the stage and wave their hands, pretending they're thrilled by every performance. Next year, let's give them cigarette lighters to hold up, to make it extra hokey.

Loser: Musical theater legend Andrew Lloyd Webber, who seemed way too geeked at being an "Idol" mentor (and proved how irrelevant he is to current audiences when Jason Castro admitted he didn't know "Memory" was sung by a cat).

Winner: Ascots, the effete neck scarves that inched back toward coolness when Australian Michael Johns wore them.

Loser: Ryan Seacrest, for milking the drama the night Johns got kicked off. Seacrest first paused to remind viewers nobody was sent home last year on "Idol Gives Back" week. Then he gave Johns the boot. Nice fakeout -- if you're a sadist.

Winner: David Cook's hairdressers. Cook started off as a permanent hair don't with a combed-forward 'do and stringy bangs. The stylists tamed his locks, and Cook helped matters by wisely making fun of himself and revealing his big-head baby pictures.

Winner: Dreadlocks. We love you, laid-back dude Jason Castro, but we can't imagine you reaching the final four with a buzz cut.

Winner: Arm tattoos, which helped Carly Smithson connect with younger viewers even as the judges tried to beat the angry spunk out of her.

Loser: Full body tattoos, which made Smithson's husband look weird and scary to older viewers at home and probably cost her some votes. Leave the total inkage to Michael on "Prison Break."

Loser: Amanda Overmyer, the skunk-haired nurse who finished 11th, one short of making it into the "American Idols Live!" cross-country tour.

Winner: The hauntingly beautiful "Hallelujah," which soared in popularity when Castro performed it.

Loser: Former winner Fantasia, who earned a stare of bafflement from Cowell near the end of her no-holds-barred guest performance last week. Either he hated the song or ... he really hated it.

Winner: Broadway musicals, which have become a career opportunity for "Idol" alums like Fantasia, Clay Aiken, LaKisha Jones and (soon in the "Grease" revival) Taylor Hicks. Most likely to join the list next is Syesha Mercado, who was practically dragged to the exit by the judges and flown to a "Rent" audition.

Winner: Country music. With Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler paving the way for beautiful blondes with a twang, Kristy Lee Cook should find a happy home in Nashville.

what's new with the MRT

i was surprised when i found out that there's somethings unusual about riding the MRT. though the crowd is still the same density, the new features of the MRT will surely get everyone's attention. but i think these new features are totally unnecessary.

MRT Station Stop

first is the station voice prompt. this is the lady whose voice tells you which station you are approaching and so with your next destination. i think this is unnecessary because instead of the driver delivering the next stop over a microphone, it has added another cost for the production of the voice over.

the LCD monitors have been placed on each car by i think 6 each. this has started last week for just a test run. i know entertainment is good inside the MRT but again, the cost of installing these LCD screens is a big amount instead of improving the MRT cars itself and for the operation subsidies.

the MRT is a bit inconsistent with the time the cars go from station to station and also packing the passengers that makes other stations congested. and the cars itself need to be checked for some of the airconditioning systems drip. it is so small that everybody is forcing themselves to get in so why not allow an improvement on buying new cars for public transport?

Birthday primer at Loreland

planning for swimming with mokkepeeps for the joint-celebrations of rina's birthday and mine. todo-tipid mode ang lahat dahil alangan ako sa expenses. pinilit ko talaga sa antipolo. hahaha... a week before ay naghahanap na kame ng resort. we chose between loreland and christina villa within antipolo or 8 waves in bulacan or 9 waves in san mateo, rizal. then finally we finalized the tour to loreland where we have already looked out for the possible expense and because christina villa hotels were booked on our planned outing, may 17-18.

05.17.18
we met at jollibee marikina around 430PM. i managed to come earlier kc namalengke pako ng dadalhin ko for us. btw it's a potluck party kaya buti nalang namenos ang malalaking gastos sa food. i bought the tikoy delicacy with peanut butter sa loob at crushed peanuts outside. ayun, hindi pa kame nakakasakay ng jeep to antipolo e nilantakan na ng mga kasama ko. buti nalang i bought 2 boxes para hindi naman kame maubusan agad. it was a bit hard to get on a jeep that day at medyo alanganin pa nga because that was a very gloomy day at may bagyo pa ata somewhere in the philippines.

finally we arrived at loreland. kala ko kame lang ang magiging tao kasi nga mejo maulan. so we checked in at pumunta na sa pinareserve naming tree house na overlooking manila. we haven't put our things yet sa treehouse kasi there were people occupying it. courtesy nalang namin na hintayin muna sila to check out but no! they just got there lang pla and they will occupy it overnight! it was a conflict in the admin and we insisted they provide us with the best they can offer. to cut it short, they gave us a room, (which was pretty good btw) and a cottage near an accessible pool. so mejo pabor na rin kasi it was airconditioned, pang-2-4 people lang sana but we're 8 so diniskartehan na lang.

kumain muna kame ng dinner after grilling it under the treehouse where we first got into and then we transferred all of our things sa room which was far from the attractions of the resort. it was outside from the resort's gate pero katabi lang ng resort.

paglipat namin sa may pool na may 7ft, may parang jacuzzi-type dun at dun kame mejo naglambotsingan ng mga kabarkada ko. pero dko inaasahan ay nagkaroon ako ng malaking sugat sa paa. dko lam kung saan ko sya nakuha pero pag-ahon ko ay may dumadanak na sa aking paa, mala-1/2 inch at may 2mm na lalim ng sugat. busted tuloy ang fun ko. we rushed to the admin building to ask for first-aid kit. first-aid kit lang sana pero OA ang reaksyon ng mga nandun at pinalibutan nila ako. nag-stethoscope pa sila na ako na yung mejo nagfreak-out. the doctor is out daw and it was more advisable na tahiin ang sugat ko. it was a bit of a scene but they only wrapped the wound in gauze and told me not to soak it in water. so hindi na nga ako makakapag-swimming the rest of out stay.

then natulog na kame.

05.18.08

Roadblock

i just logged on my Friendster account and i was a bit surprised to see familiar faces on the sides of the homepage:

it's Preview Magazine's Most Beautiful on your sidebars advertising the new Pantene that works even on wet hair.

[repeat refrain and chorus]

May tama rin ako

it's David vs David!

as per news taken from Yahoo:
`American Idol' gets down to its final 2 contestants
By ERIN CARLSON, Associated Press Writer

It'll be David vs. David.

Syesha Mercado was voted off "American Idol" Wednesday night, paving the way for the expected showdown between David Archuleta and David Cook.

Mercado, a 21-year-old actress from Sarasota, Fla., was the last woman standing on the top-rated Fox contest. The big-voiced belter surpassed a more accomplished singer (Carly Smithson), a fan favorite (Brooke White) and a statuesque country crooner (Kristy Lee Cook).

While other contestants floundered, Mercado challenged herself with ambitious song choices like Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come." She showed more personality -- and lots of leg -- while swiveling her hips in a glittery gold minidress for a rendition of "Proud Mary." She cried when Paula Abdul gave her a standing ovation last week.

Abdul held the sugar on Tuesday's performance show, telling Mercado that she thought her performance of "Hit Me Up" wasn't "good enough to get into the finals."

With Mercado out of the way, "Idol" can now fully hype the David vs. David matchup.

There's Archuleta, the 17-year-old singing prodigy from Murray, Utah, with the overly involved stage dad. And there's Cook, the 25-year-old former bartender from Blue Springs, Mo., with an emo edge that the angelic Archuleta lacks.

Who will snag the title next Wednesday?

One thing is for sure: His name will be David.
I WANT DAVID COOK TO WIN!

Photoshop Tutorial: Simple Star

We have a lot of brushes available now for Photoshop for our vector needs. Some of them can be downloaded at deviantART and some can be made by you. In this tutorial I will teach you how to make a simple star by using the default circular brushes in Photoshop.

1. open a new document with a black background.
2. select the brush tool and apply a dot on the canvass using this settings:

3. the size of your brush can be increased or decreased by pressing "["(for decreasing) or "]"(for increasing). be sure the next brush setting has a smaller diameter and also the same hardness as the dot. create an X mark on your dot.

4. with the same settings (or bigger diameter), select the Eraser tool by pressing E on your keyboard. erase the ends of the X mark.

5. you now have your simple star. duplicate it on a new layer, resize it, so you can have a cluster of different stars. ;)

There are 3 rooms that each auditionee will pass through:

  • ROOM1 - PAUTAKAN - It's a 25-items Abstract Reasoning Quiz that you need to answer within 2 minutes.
  • ROOM2 - PAGALINGAN - It's a test of Strength and Endurance with a time duration of 5 to 10 minutes.
  • ROOM3 - PATATAGAN - This is the panel interview ala Tribal Council. Beware for some tricky questions. Time frame: 2 MINUTES!

NOTE: Our informant added that the audition maybe was not comfortable for some. No chairs, tables for them to write in - most of them went on the floor or walls writing.

The auditionees will surely be asked if they have passports already. Better if they have. It might help also if the hopefus have some background about the Survivor show, how the show goes and what kind of challenges and strategies the teams mostly does.

Photoshop Tutorial: Image on Text

Hi. It's time for a new tutorial! Here's something that I would like to share with you and I have been using this art as cover for my albums from Boracay, Villa Escudero, etc.

1. Look for a good image and open it in Photoshop. I'll be using a beach background here. Once you've opened it, go to Edit and Define Pattern As... a box will appear but just click OK.

2. make a new document as to any size you want and any background you want. type your desired text.

3. double click on the layer of the text and check Pattern. look for the image on the pattern palette and adjust the scale of the image to your text. hit OK when you're finished.

4. now you've got your image on text.

it's the year of the rat and i'm turning 16 again lol. pero with my aging also comes with additional blessings and wisdom. (kung meron nga!) but sometimes i just want to gain material blessings kahit di sya dumating right away. minsan ako na nga rin ang gumagawa ng paraan para makuha ko yung mga gusto ko. and now it's 19 days before another year of my life, i made a new list of things i wanted. hopefully may makaramdam dyan para magbigay! hahaha...

Malate Starbucks

April 30 2008

This was not my first time in Malate but my first time in that area. (yung marami daw pokers also as I have observed.) Dapat kasi we are going to this "unusual store" malapit sa area to buy a gift kaso the person who was planning to buy that "stuff" can't come with us. So we just decided to go sa KP2 restaurant para magdinner.

After dining, Joy and the others were not that excited to go home yet. And I wasn't feeling alright because of the food. I craved for something hot to drink so we went at Starbucks. Sadly, Chal has to go home before we even had our drinks. And while wasting time, and it's still a bit early, we took photos.

Mawawala pa ba naman ang pictorial? Diba?
